1. Navigating to the Zoom settings menu
To access the zoom settings menu, you must be using the desktop zoom app. Unfortunately, the phone app does not feature the requisite settings. Navigating to the settings menu is somewhat roundabout; if you opened zoom by clicking the zoom session link in an email, it will open up only the meeting view, and you will have to manually open up the main app. On windows, you will most likely be able to do this by simply using the windows menu and searching for "zoom".
If not, assuming you also don't have a quick menu or desktop shortcut, you will need to navigate to the installation directory. Most likely, this will be in your program files, but if not, the next most likely place is your appdata folder, which you can access by writing %appdata% in the address bar at the top of a windows explorer tab, like so:

Once you have done this, simply press enter and find the Zoom directory. From here, navigate to the "bin" folder and start Zoom.exe. It should pull up the main Zoom interface shown above.

From here, simply click the cogwheel button and proceed to the next step.

2. Configuring the settings
Use the left navigation menu to open up the audio settings panel. From here, make sure the option "automatically adjust microphone volume" is off, and under audio profile, make sure the option "original sound for musicians" is selected, and that all three checkboxes beneath it are empty.

With that, you should be good to go, though it will still be necessary to turn on original sound inside the actual zoom meeting, as the audio profile setting only enables the option — i.e. causes a toggle to be displayed inside the meeting:
